“Best days of the holiday according to our 12 year old and I think the whole family agreed. We booked the sea kayak trip the first week and it was brilliant. Very easy to find and the guide was friendly and knowledgeable. It was nice to have a support boat following us and ready to tow us back to shore on the way back! We didn’t need it as the pace was fine. It does get VERY busy with people doing tours of the coves and grottos on motor boats and this was the only off putting part of the trip. You may be best taking the very early morning tour – I bet it’s lovely. The second week we did the downhill mountain biking which was fantastic.
The guides, Tomas and Michael, were really friendly and it was very relaxed. There were plenty of stops for water and rest which was much needed as it was hot – even if it was downhill the majority of the way. Amazing views from the highest point and on the way down- well worth going to this part of the Algarve. A lovely lunch was served in a great little village on the way down. Again, there is a support vehicle which follows which unfortunately we did need as our daughter took a nasty tumble off the bike and was badly grazed. Even with this mishap though, she really enjoyed it as we all did. Thanks for a great couple of days.”

“I booked this as a surprise for my husband as he is an avid dragon boater and we had been kayaking recently in northern Spain in the Asturias mountains. We had had such a great trip I wanted to go again.
This trip was very well run it was easy to book and felt safe with the instructor.
The scenery was amazing at Lagos paddling in and out of the caves. There was opportunity to take photos as well . A waterproof bag was provided along with life jackets and we set off in double open kayaks. There were very stable and felt safe.
The trip was for 3 hours and this company lets you paddle back ; others tow you back which must be a real let down. Ok it was tough the last 15 minutes but well worth it having satisfaction of paddling the whole trip.
You do go to a beach for 40 minutes to rest , eat it swim and snorkel.
The best time ever. Exceeded my expectations totally. Many thanks Julie and Stephen”

“Great days out and have visited a few times. Stumbled across these from one of those people that throw leaflets at you in Lagos. It was one of the best leaflets I got.
Me and my girlfriend did the downhill nature trip. Very Friendly people which run it. Got taken to the top of foia, Given a hard-tail MTB bike that fitted and worked. Safety breifing (brakes wired backwards etc) and then a quick ride to get used to the bike.
Trip down the mountain was on very easy/quite roads and paths with only a few uphill sections. Lunch, I took my own as I’m a fussy eater but was tasty for the bit i had. At the end those that wanted it when on an extra little loop to the sea and back to the office. Beer at the end!
Returned to Portugal a few years later and looked these up straight the way.
I did the Downhill off road trip this time same set up as before just a different route down using smaller paths through trees etc. More technical and need to be able to ride a bike on rougher ground well, but not need to be an Olympic level.
I also booked the Sea Kayaking for myself and the Girlfriend, which left from Lagos and was very enjoyable. easy paddling across the sea to see the grottos. you can get bullied out the way by the local grotto motor boats but by kayak is much more fun. As with the bikes you get the same friendlyness and interesting local knowledge, along with water and dry bags for your stuff. A stop at a secluded beach was a nice break before heading back to the harbour.
Overall:
If you can cycle do the nature trip, very good family day out for all levels
If your more confident on a bike try the off road trip
and the Sea kayaking is a good morning/afternoon out on the sea.”

“Wouldn’t recommend for the beginners, though.. The kayaking in Lagos was a great experience for me and my girlfriend! On our way back the wind were so strong that I wouldn’t recommend this for beginners..”

“Two brilliant days kayaking around the sea caves in Lagos and mountain biking in Monchique.
Outdoor tours team are very friendly, attentive and kept the whole family entertained.
I would have no hesitation in using this company again.”

“Sea kayaking on the coast of the Algarve last week with the Outdoor Tours crew was great. Our family group had a mixed bag of ages -12-49 – as well as fitness levels, but everyone had a brilliant time. Do keep in mind all of their tips before you come, since sunscreen, a hat and water are a must, as well as the fact that the PayPal payment is a deposit only, so remember to bring your cash to settle up before you paddle off”

“My partner and I had a great time on the sea kayaking tour with Sergio, exploring the caves along the coastline and dodging the boats along the way!
The downhill offroad MTB trip is not for the feint-hearted, with some technical sections and chance to pick up some real speed in parts. Our biking tour guide Thomas was a great guide and helped us both negotiate the terrain, and taught us about the surrounding landscape as we passed through. Overall these trips were a fantastic deal and something I’d highly recommend to anybody with an adventurous streak.”

“I was very hesitant when my husband suggested three hours ocean kayaking. Knew 12 and 10 year old boys would be okay but worried about 7(just) girl and myself who not too fit. But had a ball. The three hours flew. After first ten minutes totally relaxed and realised was not going to fall into ocean!!! Guide was fab. Definately go. Scenery was breathtaking and also the beaches gorgeous. Will go again next year. Thanks for a great afternoon”

“My boyfriend and I chose to do a combo trip with sea kayaking and the downhill cycling tour. Sergio was our guide for the sea kayaking. This is honestly the best way to see the coastal caves. Much more exciting than going on a motor boat, since you can navigate into the smaller caves that aren’t accessible by boats. Sergio took us to a private beach where we were able to explore and swim.
The next day we booked the downhill cycling tour. We rode in a van up the Foia, the highest mountain in the Algarve. Upon reaching the top, we were fitted to our bikes. Our guide Thomas made sure that we were comfortable. Overall, the ride downhill was SO MUCH FUN. There was a honey and medronho (Portuguese moonshine) tasting. We learned about the various flora of the Algarve. We stopped at a small cafe for a delicious home-cooked meal, served along with more medronho, of course. Overall, we cycled around 36 km. I will definitely take my friends here when I come back to Portugal. Great experience – a must!”

“Our family (kids are 11 & 8 years old) took one of Frank’s 3-hour+ tours kayaking around the caves at Lagos – what a great experience. We had beautiful weather and calm seas, and the guides Sergio and Sophie were well-informed and took us into little caves unaccessible by motorboat. For additional safety and respite (if needed), there was also a motorboat which accompanied us at a distance. We stopped at a couple of secluded beaches and took a swim. Great tour and great value for money!”

“I went on Outdoor Tours’ kayak trip in Lagos and it was incredible. The guys are all set up right on the beach, equipped with a safety powerboat and a guide who paddles alongside you explaining the incredible rock formations and taking you through the multitude of caves and coves. Highly recommend it!”

“We booked both the Kayak tour at Lagos and the Downhill Mountain bike trip with Outdoor Tours and both were great!
The Kayak tour was a bit rough due to a big swell on the ocean, but nevertheless the trip was nice with great staff (Sergio!). They are very keen on safety and a boat always travelled with us where you could hop in if you became to tired.
The next day we did the downhill mountainbike trip. Due to a broken radiator the van broke down on the way up, but within 45 minutes another vehicle was there to bring us to the top. In the meantime we got a drink in the town not far away.
What I’m trying to say is that even when things go wrong they handle it swiftly and promptly.
The downhill trip itself was very nice as well. Good guidance from Thomas and he also explained a lot about the nature we encountered during the trip.
I’d really recommend you to book both the Kayak and Downhill trip with this company!”

“Our family of four (2 adults + 2 teenagers) booked the sea kayaking in Lagos and downhill cycle trip online prior to our recent vacation in Portugal. Both were excellent. Loved exploring the coastline and caves near Lagos in the kayaks and the breaks on the beautiful isolated beaches. Although there were only 4 of us on the tour, we still had the support boat and 2 other guides.
The trip up the mountain in the van (with bikes on the trailer) on the narrow twisting roads had me a bit worried, but the trip down was spectacular. The scenery was amazing and the little stops at intriguing sites along the way gave us the feel of real rural Portugal. I loved the lunch stop in a tiny village (of course with narrow cobblestone streets) with fresh, healthy local food. This is the only way to see the mountain, the rural culture and the small villages. We are not avid bikers, but this was just really fun. There was little or no traffic and the bikes were good quality and well maintained.
Both trips were well organized, safe and really good value. I really liked the fact that this tour company is small and able to adjust to the needs of your group. We will definitely be trying some of their other excursions the next time we are in Portugal.”

“Two brilliant trips, sea kayaking in Lagos with a great laid back guide, double canoes and three hour trip around some of the small secluded bays and caves. Stop at a beautiful beach and snorkelling for a while, lovely and evenly paced so noone got left behind, all the time followed at a distance by a power boat in case of emergencies.
Downhill nature cycle from the top of Monchique mountain. Bus up to the top, Comfy bikes, safety helmets, water supplied, friendly knowledgable guide Thomas. Great views and details of flora and fauna. Downhill most of the way so although 35 km, not quite as much pedalling! Lovely lunch stop with sandwiches and cake. Great days out. Was rather cold at the top though! Again no one was left behind and followed by van with all the bags. Booked in advance and although was cancelled once as not enough people booked in, we were let know far enough in advance and easily rearranged for the next trip. Highly recommended.”
